The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has introduced a powerful new artificial intelligence tool aimed at transforming how design patents are examined. The tool, called DesignVision, is now available to examiners through the Patents End-to-End (PE2E) system.
DesignVision allows patent examiners to search U.S. and international design databases using images as the starting point – rather than relying only on keyword or classification searches. With access to design patents, trademarks, and industrial designs from more than 80 global sources, the tool returns results ranked by visual similarity, helping examiners find comparable designs faster and more accurately.
This new capability is designed to supplement, not replace, the other search tools already used by examiners. It’s part of a broader push by the USPTO to modernize operations, speed up patent examination, and improve search efficiency.
